Raging ambivilance towards the Wider World

So, I still can't get online easily. I get wee scraps of time on other peoples' computers - and only at rare intersections when both babies are sleeping and Hugh isn't clambering to play on the 'pewtoo' (his new name for the computer).

I tell myself that it doesn't matter and I don't need to keep up with random online surfing - news, blogs, trivia. Hell, I don't need to communicate with the Wider World! I tell myself it's only a virtual world and the real stuff, the only stuff, is in the 'now'- in the front line of babies laughing, or wailing and needing comfort. And then there's the toast on the floor and the laundry to hang out.

And other times? Well, I'm gasping to spend an hour or two 'floating' online and communing with the Wider World. Yes, indeed Wider World, that's you. What do you mean, you're not listening? What was it I meant to say again?

I liked your post - it's very honest. I have a google alert set up for the word 'ambivalence' as I'm researching folks having two ideas competing for space in their heads at the same time and your post got sent to me - so the world is listening! and I'm going to tweet your post to a couple of thousand followers now so you may get more comments.

It think 'pewtoo' is a great name for computers.

Thanks for this Carl,

nice to get your comment. Good luck with the research on ambivalence - or as we call it in Scotland - 'himming and hawing'

Glad to see you are still online... Not sure if you remember me or not, but about 4 or 5 years ago we were sort of "blogger buddies" for a bit. I just recently started blogging again - mainly because I have an etsy shop that I'm trying to promote and I've heard blogging is a good way to do it. I stopped for a while because I no longer work in an office, and therefore don't really have a need to waste my time! ;P No.... I understand what you're saying in your post. I do think that blogging and using the internet to connect with people can be very therapeutic, but I also feel it can quickly turn into a giant waste of time if you are unable to limit yourself. I find myself hopping on to just "look at something really quick" and the next thing I know an hour has past!

Anyway - good to reconnect with you again. I am excited to catch up on your blog and would also like to congratulate you on becoming a mum!

Talk to you soon,
Regan

A foremost expert on CFS, Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, has just put out a new book called Beat Sugar Addiction Now: http://endfatigue.com/. It is written in a simple style and outlines his easy to follow, multi-step plan. He begins by identifying 4 main types of sugar addicts and then outlines a specific plan for each type of addict to follow. He explains how sugar plays into the problems suffered by each kind of addict and goes into detail when clearly and succinctly explaining how to beat the cravings. While Teitelbaum does not provide recipes or meal plans, he does give guidelines for healthy eating and lists of recommended foods as well as the glycemic index for many common foods. This book would probably be helpful not only to people attempting to lose weight, but also to those with illnesses such as Type II Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, just to name a few. Though Teitelbaum is a medical doctor and is clearly coming from a medical background, he writes in layman's terms and creates a book that will be easily understood by most people.
